What is Zero film, the no-prep veneer technique from Smile Studios?
Short answer
Zero film is Smile Studios' no-prep porcelain veneer line, designed to remove little or no enamel so your natural teeth stay largely intact. Whether a truly no-prep result is possible depends on the shape and alignment of your own teeth, so the dentist confirms it individually after a detailed examination.

Zero film is a no-prep porcelain veneer line
Zero film is the no-prep line of porcelain veneers at Smile Studios Dental Clinic (스마일스튜디오치과의원) in Gangnam, Seoul. It's designed around one idea: protect the teeth you were born with. Instead of shaving down healthy enamel to make room, Zero film uses very thin ceramic built to sit on the existing tooth surface with little or no reduction.
It is one of three veneer lines at the clinic. The others are Smile X, hand-layered by a ceramist in our in-house laboratory, and Smile Prive, a bespoke line designed against your face and lip line.
Is Zero film really no-prep?
Zero film is no-prep where your teeth allow it, and minimal-prep where they don't. That's the honest answer. How much preparation a tooth needs depends on its shape, position and alignment — so the dentist confirms whether a truly no-prep result is possible for you after a detailed examination, rather than promising it upfront.
Can your teeth take a no-prep veneer?
Adding ceramic to a tooth that already sits forward makes it look thicker, so forcing no-prep on the wrong case trades one problem for another. Telling you when that's the case is part of the treatment.
How Zero film differs from conventional veneers
| Zero film (no-prep) | Conventional porcelain veneers | |
|---|---|---|
| Enamel removal | Little or none, depending on the case | Typically 0.3–0.7 mm |
| Natural tooth | Largely preserved | Permanently reshaped |
| Anesthesia | Often not needed | Usually needed |
| Laboratory work | Considerably more demanding — the ceramic is very thin | Standard thickness |
| Decided by | Detailed examination of your teeth | Detailed examination of your teeth |
Holding a thin profile while still changing shade and shape is the hard part. It takes careful diagnosis and meticulous handwork at the laboratory stage — which is why our ceramic lab sits inside the clinic, so shade and shape can be adjusted on the spot. How Zero film treatment works
Most Zero film cases take two to three visits.
| Visit | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1 | Examination, scan and design — whether no-prep is possible is confirmed here |
| 2 | Try-in — shade and shape are checked in your mouth |
| 3 | Bonding — bite check and final polish |
Ceramic fabrication usually takes about a week, so international patients typically plan their stay around that. See how many days you need in Korea for scheduling.
Who treats you
Zero film cases are handled personally by Dr. Young-kyung Kim, Founder & Clinical Director — from diagnosis through treatment to aftercare. Dr. Kim is a graduate of Yonsei University College of Dentistry, a board-certified dental specialist (Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare), and completed the Oral Design no-prep veneer symposium. Full credentials are on the Dentist page, and the Zero film page has more on the line itself.
